Not as funny as I thought...

Well, I should be working on some marketing pieces right now...but of course, I'm procrastinating. Anyway, the post has to do with these projects.

The vice president of sales and marketing asked my supervisor and I to work up some marketing pieces. This is a side project on top of my regular projects. He gave us concepts and some comp photos. Well, haven't had a lot of time to work on them at work due to other priorities, but I got one done. I'm happy with the cover but not so happy with the inside spread. I'm having major creative block. He's been asking about them for a few days now. Some of the stock photo comps he gave me weren't working well with the text so I looked for more on the iStock Photo website. I ran across a photo of what looked to be the back of the VP's head. He shaves his head completely bald. The pic I found was the back of a guys head...completely bald and he had a nice business jacket on. It was from shoulders up. A light bulb went off in my head. (Note to self...some light bulbs aren't too bright to follow through with) So I took the photo, Photoshopped the company logo on to the back of the bald guys head and put meet...insert VP's name and under that I put Vice President of Sales and Marketing for AIMedia Solutions. I thought it was pretty cool. My supervisor thought it was funny and said I should show it to him. So after laying it out, I printed it off and cropped it down to post card size and put it in the VP's office box so he could see in when he came in Monday morning.

Last night I get a text from my supervisor..."let's really push to get those marketing pieces out. The ad you left in his box didn't really strike him funny. It kinda hit him wrong." It really never fails in my life that I at times lack the wisdom to discern who will have a sense of humor about certain things. Apparently it was because I had time to do that goofy ad and not his other stuff. That goofy ad took all of 10 minutes to layout and the other stuff will take some real thought. Anyway...I see my perspective and his so I'll think hard and crank those puppies out tonight to make up for the offense. I had to laugh at myself for actually thinking that was a clever thing to do. :P

This isn't the first time Kimmy has really missed it. Once I was working in Glenn Gene Deli in the Mall in Cleveland. One of the girls that worked there was throwin' lemon pieces across the store at me. We were just goofin' off cause nobody was in the mall that night. I was throwing lemon pieces back at her. Well she turned around to cut more lemons or something and there was a whole lemon sitting on the counter by me. So I picked it up and chucked it across the store and pegged her on the back. Pretty much right on the spine. :) I threw it a lot harder than I thought I did cause I heard a THUD! And she slowly turned around with tears in her eyes and I knew that it probably wasn't funny. So I ran over to her and said, "I'm SO SORRY! I was just playin' and threw it too hard!" She screamed, "DON'T EVER TALK TO ME AGAIN!!!" She ran away crying. Of course...she was a teenager and made it a bigger deal than it shoulda been but I felt so bad. It wasn't funny for about a month. Then she started talking to me again.

Then there was this one time at Cooke's Grocery Store. I was a cashier. There was some generic newspaper at the end of every register and on the front of it was a cheerleading squad from one of the local high schools in Cleveland. I was bored so I started drawing mustaches and eye brows and glasses on all the girl's faces. Well, one of the old lady cashiers saw it and came over and started yellin' that I did it on purpose. I didn't know what she was talkin' about. Well come to find out...one of her grand daughters was a cheerleader on the cover and I had maliciously tagged her face with eye brows and a mustache. That's what she believed anyway. I'm mean...really??? I tried to explain to her that I didn't know who her grand daughter was and I was just bored. She didn't believe me. She was mad at me for quite a while. I had bag boys randomly comin' up to me asking what I did to so and so and when I explained they would laugh hysterically. That lady wouldn't look at me and wouldn't talk to me and would talk about me behind my back for a couple months. Eventually it worked out and we became friends but before that it was pretty miserable.

Sigh. I mean...yes...I shouldn't Photoshop company logos on my bald VP's head or peg a co-worker in the spine with a lemon...or vandalize some old lady's grand daughter's face on a generic news paper. Maybe one day I'll grow some humor discernment.
