This is the last year we have to go to Jack Anderson Elementary's Fall Festival. This is bitter sweet. Bitter in that Courtney is growing up and she'll be going to middle school next year. Sweet because...to be honest...neither Jeff nor I like going to the festival. We go and work the class booth for Courtney. I think there was one year we didn't work the class booth and we got the evil eye from the room mom that saw us walking around and she knew we didn't sign up to help. This year, we worked the Jaguar Jail. It was absolute chaos but that made it fun.
After we were done with our duty we walked around waiting for Court. She was with her friend Cally so we were stuck at the fall festival childless. She finally got there and right before we left she begged me to ride the Berry Go Round. It's a giant strawberry shaped ride...sure you've seen it at some point in your life. So I cave and I ride the Berry Go Round. So it's me, Court, and another 3rd grade-ish lookin' boy. The man starts the ride. It basically spins in a circle and you can make it go faster if you spin the wheel in the center. I wasn't going to help turn the wheel but they were barely spinning beyond what the ride normally rotates. So I grabbed the wheel and turned it like there was no tomorrow. It hurled the little boy up against the berry wall and Courtney's eyes got big and she fell over laughing. The force was substancial cause Court was having a hard time leaning up to grab the wheel. It was all cool until I started gettin' sick. I had just downed a bag of cotton candy before riding. And then when it slowed down I just had to give it one more good whirl. So we get off...and everything is spinning in my head. The little boy is just standing at the top of the stairs lookin' down tryin' to figure if the stairs are moving cause I guess his brain is spinnin', too. From that point on my afternoon was shot. We got home and I laid on the bed trying not to hurl. No more Berry Go Rounds!!!!
While I slept off the kiddie ride, Jeff went to Regie Hamm's Bellabash for his daughter who has Angelman Syndrome. We were all supposed to go but there was no way I was gonna make it. If you don't know who Regie Hamm is, he wrote the song that David Cook from American Idol sang when he won: The Time of My Life. Anyway, you can check out Regie Hamm and his support of the Angelman Syndrome Cure at: www.regiehamm.com. There's a video that talks about his daughter which he adopted from China and her struggle with the disability and how it lead to the song he wrote for the AI contest. Regie wrote a song for our wedding and sang it while we lit our unity candles. Pretty sweet.
And last but not least a technology update. Our wireless router died. So I went and bought a new one. The box says, "Easy installation, automatically sets up your network, no technical jargon...yada yada" I'm thinkin' sweet! LIES!!! ALL LIES!!! I followed the instruction...all the lights are on...no internet. I worked on it for a an hour. Got frustrated and went and mowed the yard. Came back...worked on it some more and finally called the 800 number. So this was totally not easy. It involved logging on to the admin screen and checking security settings, IP address settings, configuration of the network, testing, and cloning the Mac address and saving that and then going to the run screen and running a command in the terminal and then going back to the admin screen and unchecking various things. After about 45 minutes of clicking and unplugging and rebooting and clicking and unchecking...bam. It worked. So the "Get's up up and running in minutes..." just be warned. Good grief!!!
Now after my tech rant...enjoy this lovely slide show of the fall festival and Jeff's visit to Bellabash.
