Welcome Jaden Thomas Jones

My weekly prenatal appointments started in March. The first appointment I had that month turned into evaluation time at Vanderbilt hospital due to high blood pressure. They talked about an early induction, possibly that day. They did some tests and monitored the baby and me and then allowed me to go home.

The next week, I went to my check up and because of high protein in my urine and high blood pressure, they called me to schedule an induction the next day. Jeff and I were not ready for him to come three weeks early. We had torn our bedroom apart to repaint and clean the carpets. We didn't have Jaden's stuff set up. It was stressful.

I went in to be induced Wednesday, March 16th. I got to the hospital at 8:30am for check in. I was induced at 10:30am. They checked me before induction and I had already dilated to 3. Because I had preeclampsia, they put me on a magnesium drip. That stuff makes you feel sleepy, slow, hot, and yucky. I requested an epidural a little over halfway through labor. A resident administered the epidural and it only took on one side. Man...I had not felt that kind of pain with Courtney. It was intense. More power to the women who do this without meds, but why feel it when you don't have to? That was truly the most painful experience ever in my life and I had not experienced the most painful contractions. The Dr. training the resident ended up having to come in and back the epidural out a centimeter and it finally began to work on my left side. It had not taken fully when I had Jaden but it was much more bearable.

Jeff was awesome through the whole thing. :) He thought that the sight of Jaden being born might be too much blood and guts, but he ended up watching and loving the experience. We laughed through out the entire time of labor, minus the contractions. Ha! I see some of those shows where the wives yell and scream at their husbands. I'm happy to say...I didn't think he was annoying at all. I was so glad to have him there. :) So glad our friend Sarah Murray was there to take pics and share the experience with us.

There were health set backs that were unexpected but despite them, the entire experience was really a blessing and great to go through. I am so thankful that God allowed us to have it.

Jaden Thomas Jones was born on Wednesday, March 16th, 2011 at 5:15pm. He was 6 pounds 7 ounces. Vandy measured him at 20.5". The pediatrician said he was only 20". He had a head full of hair. He was so tiny and so loved. :) We thank God for our baby boy.

While we were in the hospital, some of our church family came and painted our bedroom so it would be ready when Jaden got home. Cody cleaned our carpets and moved the furniture back into our room. Thanks to all those who helped! That was a real blessing. :)
