Costa Rica Day 5

We did the same routine as yesterday. We were picked up a little earlier than yesterday. We made our way to the overseer's house, picked up food they had prepared all morning, and then made our way to the worksite. The men had been up early and was already there.

Let me say this about the way they drive in Costa Rica. It is CRAZY! They pull out in front of one another. They cut each other off. They drive through downtown at high rates of speed...weaving in and out of traffic. They create lanes to pass when there are not lanes there. They gun it when a pedestrian is crossing the road in on coming traffic. It's nuts! But...I haven't seen one wreck. This is just how everyone drives...and no one gets road rage that I've seen. They honk at each other constantly...but no one ever seems to take it personally. It is the way it is. I could not drive down here. I would get run over pretty quickly. It makes Atlanta traffic look like a drive on a lazy Sunday afternoon. HA!

We ate lunch with the guys. They had made a lot of progress on the wall. They tore down the remaining bars that used to support the ceiling. A lot of the area was cleaned up from yesterday. They were welding and putting the wood panels up along the top of the wall so they could pour concrete.

After lunch, the ladies from Roberts and ladies from this local church took us around the neighborhood. We passed out crayons, candy, and coloring books along with some tracks. They invited the neighbors to their church. Pastor Tim was explaining, it is very important for the people to have a good place to meet. The houses they live in will only hold a handful of people because they are so small...so a meeting place is so needed. This will become a community type center for everyone in the neighborhood.

The people were very nice and very receptive. The kids loved getting the candy and coloring books. I wish we had brought more. We ran out pretty quickly. Next time we come, we will bring a lot more.
