Finishing up C.S. Lewis' Mere Christianity. Really enjoyed the book. Not gonna do a book report, but a lot of good stuff in there...in a nut shell. I actually read it instead of the audio book. Sometimes the disadvantage of listening to an audio book is you can't choose the narrator. It's a great read and I recommend it.
Wednesday night me and another lady, June, took some of the youth to the hospice where she works at. The week before, they created cards and ornaments to pass out to the patients. The kiddos were kinda weird about singing to people. It ended up being me singing with them mumbling in the back ground. It wasn't awkward at all. :) The patients we met were given about 6 months or less to live. The first two ladies we sang to were very sweet. They were very much alert and spoke to us. The second lady was almost deaf so I had to sing VERY LOUD. But she moved her mouth along with the words and smiled the entire time. That was a definite heart tugger. Two of the patients were asleep so we didn't sing to them. The last, was a man who was not responsive at all, but his family, grandkids, daughters, son, and wife were there with him and as far as June said, they have been there everyday since he's been there. I think she said about two weeks. They were packed into the room. We sang a couple of songs, ending with Silent Night. That song was emotional...some of the family began to cry. I felt so bad for them. When we left, one of the kids said they felt so sad for that family and the others agreed. It put a definite perspective on life. Hopefully we'll be able to do more projects like that to help them get more of a perspective and heart for serving others.
