The Bus

Yesterday Court missed the bus. The bus had been late the day before by about 10 to 15 minutes due to bad traffic so, I guess Court thought she would have more time the next day. I got up and went into the living room to check on her. She said, "I'm gonna go make my lunch." I looked at the time, and it was one minute till the bus was to come. I said, "You don't have time...the bus is gonna be here." She said, "No...she'll be here around 6:57." Random time to pick...but I still hit concerned mode. Sitting in middle school traffic is a nightmare. One of the ladies I work with lives by the school and because it's close to the main road that runs right through Hendersonville, it's nuts. Even more so than the elementary school traffic. I do not EVER, unless absolutely necessary, want to sit in that traffic. Sure enough...time for the bus to come and it rolls around up to Court's stop...looks around...and leaves. Court is still standing in the living room. My voice was raised....again. sigh. Next thing I know, Court grabs her back pack, runs out the door....leaves it open...and vanishes. I look out into the front drive way and down the street. Nothing. She had run around the back of the house through the neighbor's yards in flip flops. HA! She caught the bus at the next stop. I imagine a Ferris Bueller's Day Off scene. I had told her the day before...missing the bus is not an option and you'll be in big trouble if you do! So she wasn't about to miss that bus. :)

Later on, I went out to eat lunch with some co-workers. I noticed I have a call on my phone from a Hendersonville number. That can only mean one thing most of the time...a school call. I got the voice mail and it was from someone in the middle school office. Courtney had been bitten by a spider in class so the teacher sent her to the office to be checked out. The administrator called me to let me know and they were calling the nurse to come to the school and check the bite. They believed it would be ok because it didn't look bad at all. They sent the maintenance man to check out the spider and it was a tiny non-poisonous one. I called back and they explained everything to me and I said, if it starts to look bad or swell, call me and I'd come pick her up. The nurse came after my call, checked it out, and called me back to tell me it was fine but if I had any questions to call her. I thought that was pretty cool. They obviously have policies in place to make sure your child is safe and that you are notified...even if it was something small like that. Made me feel like if something big happened...they have everything under control. Court's fine...nothing happened with the bite.

After the bus incident yesterday, the bus driver told Court she would pick her up at our house now. This makes me feel a lot better. The corner she stood on was across the street and one house away but still...I feel more comfortable with her being closer to home. So that made me happy. :) All in all...good experiences with the middle school and the transportation system.
