Random stuff to blog about. Nothin' special.
Jeff and I read The Shack. Well...he read...I listened to the audio book. Gotta love iTunes. I liked it. There were so many overwhelming places in the book. Very emotional. I've encountered two types of people who've read the book. One, people who kinda talk about it like it's in addition to the bible and two, people who are completely closed minded about it and are calling for a boycott. Where am I? Somewhere in the middle. I tend to avoid Christian fads. Seems like people are just looking for the next Christian epiphany or something. There's nothing wrong with being excited about a book...I just don't want to jump on the band wagon without cautiously examing it now. I say now...cause I guess I used to be a band wagon person. Band wagons in Christianity...Word of faith...name it claim it...prosperity and wealth...speaking things into existance. That stuff needs to be examined carefully instead of blindly following Christian trends. Not just what I read...but what I watch as well in regards to Christian programing. I mean...who really has everything down right correct as far as interpretation of the scripture and doctrine? So I don't want to throw stones. I'm still a work in progress and definitely not a bible scholar. But, some of the well known televangelists really bother me and I get that icky feeling about them. In regards to the Shack, books like it, and just any form of media presenting an interpretation of the bible or who God is...it's important to be vigilant. It's important to dig in to the word and know the truth for yourself. Not just what other men, women, preachers tell you. It's important to know the history and the culture surrounding the scriptures. They are and can be taken completely out of context. Just because we get a goose bump doesn't mean that it's a right word or right interpretation of scripture. I believe The Shack to be like a piece of art. It's one man's rendering, illustration, representation of how God worked in his own life. It's not a replacement or addition to the bible. At the same time, I'm not all upset that God was represented as a black woman in the book. I'm not out to boycott the book. The imagery used in the book was powerful to me. I don't agree with everything but...it's just a book and we should use Godly wisdom in reading it and just take it for what it is. Fiction.
Off that soap box...I've been working on a camp website. It's been fun and frustrating at the same time. I'm trying to learn to use CSS style sheets and my lack of understanding is frustrating. I'm spending a lot of time on my Mac at night trying to learn all I can about it. I hope to have the site live in the next couple of weeks. I have a lot of information to post so we'll see.
Courtney is spending the week with my mom and dad. While down there she got the flu. High fever, up chucking, body aches. I talked to her yesterday and she was starting to feel better. I know mom did a good job taking care of her. She's a bit more nuturing than I am. HA! Poor dad got stuck with cleaning up after Court when she first got sick. In the history of stomach bugs Courtney has had, she has never once made it to the bathroom on time. I will be the first to admit I have a very very low tolerance for cookie tossing. I would say I have a phobia of it. HA! I remember when I was little, if anyone in the house was sick with it, I would stay in my room unless I had to come out. If I did, I held my breath until I couldn't anymore and then my shirt was pulled over my face. Needless to say, you can't very well do that when you're a mom...so it's been a challenge that I have failed at many times. I get sick even hearing someone throw up.
Got some business perks this past week. My supervisor and I worked on a personal project for one of our company partners. As a thank you he hooked us up with some nice gifts. We redesigned and laid out Hendersonville's Ladies Blue Grass Golf Club rule book and yearbook. Took a few days to do but it turned out nicely. They were used to construction paper with word documents. Nick designed the cover and I laid out the text. He gave use both a $100.00 gift certificate to Blue River Canyon Day Spa. His wife works at Macy's and she hooked us both up with tons of perfume and colone from Macy's. I got a large tote bag full of large bottles of perfume. I got Vera Wang, Ralph Lauren Romance, and a couple other large bottles I'm not as familiar with. Got some smaller bottles of Calvin Klein. Some lotions and cremes as well. So we got the hook up.
Jeff and I are hangin' out today. We were gonna go do something...Zoo or something outdoorsy today but there are some pretty bad storms on the way. Think we'll use wisdom and stay close to home. Tomorrow morning we'll be heading down to Tallahoma for the funeral of Sarah Rodolph. I'm really dreading it. Not that anyone enjoys going to funerals but with her being so young....ehh. A lot of the youth from up in Westmoreland are going down and some of them are already there spending time with her best friend that lives there in Tallahoma. After that I'll be goin' up to Kentucky to celebrate a birthday for my niece whose turning 1. Two extremely opposite situations. I look forward to the birthday party.
